A project to brighten up a library front has scooped an Enfield in Bloom award.

Pamela Shapland and Mary Smith, of Friends of Ponders End Library, planted eleven large plant beds outside the library and are now reaping the rewards.

The pair won the Bronze Award for Public Building in the Enfield in Bloom competition, which honours floral displays across the borough.

Pamela Shapland, who applied for the Enfield Residents Priority fund to pay for the project, said: "These planters were becoming litter bins, full of rubbish. They looked unsightly so we decided to do something about it.

"With the ERPF money we filled these boxes with lovely flowering plants. They now look absolutely wonderful. It is the icing on the cake to win an award for it as well!"

Councillor Yasemin Brett, Enfield council's cabinet member for community organisations and culture, said: "This project, for relatively little money, has cheered up the entire front of Ponders End Library, and made that part of the borough pleasant for people to sit in and use.

"I am delighted to hear that it has also won an Enfield in Bloom award. It is wonderful to hear about local residents who want to do their bit to brighten up their ward, and this project certainly leads the way."
