Five developers have been shortlisted by Enfield council in its process to decide on a master developer for the £2billion Meridian Water Development.

The 85-hectare development in Upper Edmonton will see the building of 8,000 new homes and creation of 3,000 jobs by 2035.

Developers Berkeley Homes, Barrett & Segro, Taylor Wimpey & Dorchester, PCPD & Wilmott Dixon and Peabody, were chosen for the second stage of the selection process, with the winner due to be announced in early 2016.

Councillor Alan Sitkin, Enfield council’s cabinet member for economic regeneration and business development, said the successful developer will be instrumental in delivering the ambitious scheme.

He said: “We need a world-class partner to help us deliver a world class development. Meridian Water will transform our borough and play a significant role in driving growth in north London as a whole.

“I am delighted to see the shortlist contains developers of international renown, and I am really excited about who our successful partner is going to be.”

As well as the building of thousands of new homes, the development will offer a range of facilities including a new Meridian Angel primary school and a new Meridian Water rail station.
