‘If it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ was the motto of one teenager who landed his dream course following high A-Level results.
Erkin Salih, of Bush Hill Park, kept his cool as he opened his results envelope that revealed he had achieved A* AAA in his A-levels and would be heading off to Imperial College to do computing.
The 18-year-old, of Edmonton County School, who celebrated with a cheeky Nandos after getting into one of the most competitive placements in the country, said the nerves were unbearable the night before finding out his results.
He said: “I was trying to focus on working but I was thinking about the results so much. I know there is nothing I could do to change them but to know that a life changing moment is the next day was hard to focus.”
Mr Salih spoke of his ambitions to create games, stemmed from his passion to play computer games.
He said: “I am very practical and I love to build things. The first thing I built was a computer – I cannot wait to get into the course learn more about the specifics of computing.”
When studying for his A-levels, the 18-year-old had been scoring Cs in tests building up to the big day but revealed he knuckled down hard when the time mattered.
He said: “I did it with GCSEs and AS levels, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, they say. I was being nagged by my tutor after only scored Cs and Bs when I should be aiming for As so I worked hard when the time came to get my results.”
Proud father Salih Suavi said he had a “tear in his eye” when he found out his son’s results and said: “He was motivated to succeed, I am so proud of him to get into Imperial, it’s amazing.”
