First time’s a charm for one academy after receiving a good rating in its first Ofsted report.

Heron Hall Academy secondary, in Nightingale Road, Edmonton, opened in September 2013, gained the rating in all areas with safeguarding children being highlighted as outstanding.

There was a second piece of good news for the academy, run by Cuckoo Hall Academies Trust (CHAT) with the government set to invest £40million into develop a new site for the school.

Work began on developing the old Middlesex University site on Queensway, Enfield, in December, with the project expected to be completed in 2016.

The Ofsted reports noted that: “Almost all students achieve well. They make good, and sometimes better than good, progress from all starting points and backgrounds."

It added: "Governors are well trained. They know the school well and hold senior leaders to account for the school's performance. They keep a sharp focus on the arrangements to keep students safe."

"Governors and leaders have enabled students to develop enjoyment in learning and ambition for their futures."

Patricia Sowter, the Executive Headteacher of Cuckoo Hall Academies Trust, said: "It is wonderful to have received the excellent tributes from the Ofsted inspectors for yet another of our schools.

“We are particularly pleased that the report recognises that this is a success for Cuckoo Hall Academies Trust as a whole - our schools are all in one family, and while they have freedom to lead and innovate, they also know they have expertise and support from the centre.

“The rating is recognition of the hard work of pupils, parents and staff who make Heron Hall – and all our schools – such excellent places to learn. Our vision for Primary and Secondary colleagues to work closely together for the benefit of pupils was positively recognised by the Ofsted team.”
