Thousands of homes could face water shortages following a burst pipe.

The burst water pipe in Enfield Road, happened in the early hours of the morning and has meant some homes have been completely without water.

Thames Water engineers have been at work all day yet have had to turn off water in the area to be able to repair the pipe.

The means around 2,500 homes will be affected throughout the rest of the day and into the evening.

Bottled water is being provided at three points in the borough where homes have been hit the worst.

Chris Featherstone, head of operational control at Thames Water, said: “We’re very sorry to anyone experiencing issues with their water today. This is a complicated repair on a very large pipe, and we’re doing our best to get it fixed as soon as possible.

“We’re doing all we can to try and have water supplies back to normal by early tomorrow morning, but there is a risk some customers will be without water until then. Please bear with us and check our website for bottled water pick-up points and the very latest information.”

The bottled water pick up points are:

• Our Lady of Walsingham, 71 John Gooch Drive, Enfield
