Hundreds of people flocked to Enfield Town for a nostalgic step back in time to discover a collection of vintage vehicles.

The town market, in Church Street, saw an abundance of vintage and classic vehicles from down the years.

The collection came from eras beginning with a 1904 Orient Buckboard car, steered with a tiller instead of a steering wheel, through to a more recent 1972 V12 ‘E’ Type Jaguar.

Most of the cars were supplied by members of Enfield’s Whitewebbs Museum of Transport, with many of the owners dressing in the era of their vehicles to add to the atmosphere of the event.

Mark Rudling, town centre manager for Enfield Business Retailers Association, who organised the event, said: “This highly successful day put smiles on the faces of so many generations of people. Everybody, whether they drive or not, has a fond memory attached to a motor car that played a part in their lives."

“It was highly appropriate that the event was sponsored by Enfield Town’s oldest business, Pearsons, established in 1903, and that they had the world’s oldest working fire engine parked opposite the Church Street entrance”.

“I would also like to thank the trustees of the Old Enfield Charitable Trust for allowing us to have the use of the historic market square, an ideal backdrop for this type of event”.
