People living in Upper Edmonton have paid tribute to the long-serving postie, who delivered in the area for almost four decades, as a "wonderful person".

Mr Standford, of Picketts Lock Lanes, has taken voluntary redundancy after 37 years working for the Royal Mail but members of the Residents of Edmonton Angel Community Together (REACT) presented him with farewell messages.

Grace Kamall, member of REACT, paid homage to the reliable postman. She said: “He could be relied upon to turn up with our letters and parcels in all kinds of weather, often with suitable headgear.

“He knows us all so well that we would never miss a letter, even if it was wrongly addressed.

“He is pleasant and valued by the whole community, ready for a quick chat and with a wonderful smile, making him a friend to all. Old and young alike have nothing but good to say about him, and he has a really good sense of humour. He is an enthusiastic reader, often sharing opinions on plot lines with fellow enthusiasts.”
