A supermarket donated more than £500 of food to a mosque for Ramadan.

The Jalalia Masjeed Mosque, in Ponders End, was given staples including chapati flour, sunflower oil, and basmati rice by Tesco Extra, in Southbury Road, Ponders End.

The food was delivered in a van designed by eight-year-old Ruha Rifai as part of a Ramadan competition Tesco held across the capital.

The mosque works with Muslim charities in the area to provide vital support for some of the community’s most vulnerable people.

Marcie Thomas, borough champion for Enfield, said: “As Ramadan is a time associated with generosity and giving, we’re delighted to have donated food to Jalalia Masjeed Mosque in Ponders End, and hope it will go towards supporting those in need this Ramadan.”
