A group scouts have camped in 40 degree heat to prepare for the trip of a lifetime.

Scouts from Enfield are preparing to attend the 23rd annual World Scout Jamboree in Japan this summer.

With less than a month to go the scouts are nearing the end of their preparations and as part of that have been camping in sweltering conditions to acclimatise before they head off.

Enfield explorer scout Ben Conway said “I’ve never pitched a tent in such an odd place, it was roasting in there.

“I was soaked by the time we had put the tents up. I never expected it to be such hard work – we will need to make sure we drink enough liquids in Japan. Despite the heat I’m really excited to be this close to going”.

Thousands of young people will be attending the jamboree and will have the opportunity to take part in hundreds of activities focused on discovering new cultures, the environment, sustainable development and global development issues.

Chief scout Bear Grylls said: “Over the course of the Jamboree Scouts will be able to meet people from around the world, take part in amazing adventures and experiences and be challenged to think about global issues in a new light.

“That is why Scouting is one of the greatest youth movement on earth and why I am so proud to be part of it.”
