Enfield council will consider library closures and the issue of fly-tipping at tonight’s full council meeting.

The cabinet passed proposals last Wednesday to end the mobile library service but hopes to keep all 17 libraries open.

Enfield has more libraries than any London borough but 11 will become ‘community libraries’, sharing premises with other services, under the proposals.

The four biggest libraries, Enfield Town, Edmonton Green, Palmers Green and Ordnance Road community hub, will be redeveloped to become ‘flagship libraries’, extending their opening hours to seven days a week.

Also on the agenda for tonight’s meeting is the scourge of fly-tipping.

The Conservative opposition will press the council to do more to address the problem as they say it is getting worse and that fly-tip rates have risen year-on-year since 2012.

The meeting of the full council will take place at the Enfield Civic Centre in Silver Street at 7pm.
