Mayor of London Boris Johnson is calling on young musicians and singers to enter his annual busking competition.

The deadline to enter the competition ends on Sunday, May 31, and young hopefuls will be aiming to emulate the success of Natalie Shay, 16, of Arnos Grove, who won the youth category last year.

The competition has three sections: youth, for performers aged 11 to 15; soloists and duos aged 16 to 25 and groups, for two to eight members, aged 11 to 25.

Competitors will perform on London’s streets before winners are decided at the grand final at Westfield Stratford, in September.

Winners could get their hands on a licence to busk on London Underground, recording time, coaching from songwriters and the chance to busk in Paris.

The Mayor of London said: “There are talented musicians in every corner of the capital who have a dream of becoming a major star like Ed Sheeran, Mumford and Sons, or Adele.

“Gigs is a fantastic opportunity to get exposure, build your confidence and expertise playing live and win prizes designed to hone your craft. Come on, you've just two weeks to enter and be part of one of the biggest music events of the year.”
