Workers at a stately home celebrated the 150th birthday of the man who created it.
Edward Augustus Bowles created Myddelton House Gardens, in Bulls Cross, and his birthday was celebrated with a commemorative banner hanging over the tulip terrace.
The self-taught gardener, botanist and enthusiast of unusual plants used to open the gardens on his birthday for a fete to raise money for Jesus Church, in Forty Hill.
Former head gardener Andrew Turvey created a tulip style birthday cake to commemorate the day yesterday.
On Saturday, May 16 and July 25, senior gardener Bryan Hewitt will lead a ‘walking in the footsteps of Mr Bowles’ guided walk, looking at the gardener's life and legacy.
