Parents have been left stunned by graffiti which has appeared on an underpass in Enfield Lock.

The graffiti reads ‘immigrant s***hole’ in red writing on the underpass at Enfield Lock train station, in Ordnance Road.

This is the second time that offensive graffiti has been found in the Enfield Lock area after markings on the floor outside Prince of Wales Primary School, in Salisbury Road, readings “whites not welcome”.

Sarah Payne, a parent who uses the underpass regularly, said: “It is shocking; I am stunned that someone would write this.

“There has been unrest in the area and social tension but this takes things to another level.”

However, Jomir Hussain, of Chesterfield Road, revealed he was not surprised by the graffiti appearing and has called on something to be done.

He said: “We have seen this stuff all the time around the area, it’s a sad state of affairs and makes me feel nervous.

“We need action to be taken to stop this unrest, not just remove the graffiti when it does happen, that is not the solution.”

An Enfield Borough Council spokeswoman said: "Enfield Council takes graffiti like this very seriously, and would urge all members of the public seeing anything like this to report it straight away. This has now been removed."
