Enfield Borough Council has achieved a ‘gold standard’ for safeguarding people with risk of abuse and neglect.

The ‘making safeguarding personal’ award was given following an audit into the local authority's protection arrangements.

The report said: “The London Borough of Enfield demonstrates a clear commitment to empowering people who use services by delivering personalised information, advice and services, as well as involving people who use services in safeguarding from the beginning to the very end. This highlights the importance of people’s journey with this process.”

Cllr Don McGowan, cabinet member for adult services and care said: “This is a remarkable achievement for Enfield Council, and good news for Enfield’s vulnerable residents as it demonstrates our commitment to putting them first and responding to their needs.

“During 2014/2015, Enfield Council received a total of 955 reports of possible abuse or neglect alerts, which justifies the need for robust and effective safeguarding adults’ arrangements.

“I must also highlight the dedication and professionalism of our staff who work every day on the front line for our residents most in need, we would not be celebrating this accolade if not for their tireless work.”
