Students at a secondary academy have created a news feature for the BBC.

Students at Heron Hall Academy, in Edmonton, interviewed pupils as they tackled the subject “How can schools stop radicalisation?”

The film is part of the BBC News School Report initiative, which aims to motivate secondary school students around the UK to make and broadcast their own news.

Patricia Sowter, executive head of Cuckoo Hall Academies Trust, said: “We have very high expectations for all our students and it was wonderful to see the Heron Hall children represent the trust so brilliantly. We are all extremely proud of them.”

Matthew Laban, headteacher of Heron Hall Academy, said: “The students covered a complex subject very thoughtfully. Initiatives like this are great opportunities for students to develop skills beyond the classroom and we are always exploring ways we can deliver a high quality, rounded education.

“I’m looking forward to seeing our students reading the headlines on the news in years to come.”

Helen Shreeve, editor of BBC School Report, said: “I am incredibly impressed by their report – it’s very thoughtful and well-presented and I am proud that they are school reporters.”
