Professor Lord Robert Winston dropped in to a preparatory school to open its new science lab.

The scientist attended Salcombe school, in Southgate, in the 1940’s and was welcomed back as the pupils counted down the seconds before Lord Winston cut the ribbon to open the site.

Year 6 pupils then put on a demonstration for the professor as he spoke about the importance of science.

Science teacher Amber Long said “Professor Lord Winston’s visit to our school will be a fond memory for both me and the children at Salcombe Preparatory School. As he spoke to the children about his experiences of science growing up; I was amazed with the awe that graced the children’s faces.

“Professor Lord Winston has left the children with a passion to further explore science, both in our new science lab and in their kitchen.”
