A leisure centre has received a £1.2m grant.

Southbury Leisure Centre, in Southbury Road, Enfield, received the cash from Fusion Lifestyle and Enfield Borough Council.

Councillor Rohibi Sumbodyal paid a visit to the new centre, to see its transformation for herself.

Cllr Simbodyal, who is responsible for culture, sport, youth and public health, said “This £1.2m cash injection will see further improvements in Enfield Council’s leisure centres including new equipment, more space, and lots of new equipment to make exercise easier and fun.

“This investment in Enfield’s leisure facilities has come from the surplus made from our partnership with Fusion Lifestyle, which we are reinvesting to improve services.

“Our last public health report showed people are living longer than before and in better health, so we want to encourage this trend by getting as many people as possible to sign up for their local Fusion gym, as there is something for everyone there.

“There are classes, activities and facilities for everyone to enjoy, so why not find out more about joining your local leisure centre?”

Edmonton Leisure Centre is also undergoing a full refurbishment, with a new gym and a free weights area.

Nigel Court, Fusion Lifestyles divisional business manager, said: “These improvements to the Enfield facilities are a welcome addition to already very busy and successful facilities.

“The local community will again be getting the very best in fitness facilities around and ones to rival many private health clubs in the area.”
