Enfield North MP Nick de Bois has tabled a bill to help people take action against rogue landlords.

Currently, the law only allows ombudsmen to step in on disputes between landlords and their tenants but the bill would allow would encompass those living next door to rogue landlords or troublemaking tenants.

The bill also targets landlords of shared houses, which includes hotels.

Nick de Bois MP said: “There are simply too many cases  where neighbours who are trying to resolve issues such as distressing anti-social behaviour with some tenants in shared houses, where the landlords either are unware of the problems their tenants are causing neighbours, or worse do not care about it.

“Presently it can be very hard to even try to locate and identify landlords when residents are seeking to enlist landlord help in resolving what can be a very disturbing cycle of anti-social behaviour that all too often take too long for authorities to sort out if at all.”

Last year there were 195,231 shared houses in London, which was a growth of more than 10,000 on the previous 12 months. There are more than 1,000 in Enfield.
