A political campaigner has been selected ahead of a serving councillor and a former Mayor of Enfield to be the Labour candidate for Edmonton.
Kate Osamor, a GP practice manager from Tottenham, was selected yesterday – beating Cllr Ayfer Orhan and former Mayor Kate Analoue to the candidacy.
The member of Labour’s national executive committee now hopes to retain MP Andly Love's Edmonton seat which has been a safe seat for Labour.
Mr Love was elected in 1997 and has decided to step down, prompting more than 100 people to throw their name into the hat.
Eventually an all-women shortlist was drawn up – Labour’s first.
Ms Osamor received congratulatory messages on social media as she prepared for campaign for May’s general election.
