Work has begun to build the first council homes in the borough for 30 years.

Developers have moved onto the Parsonage Lane site in Enfield, one of seven areas that will see 94 homes comprising 37 affordable homes - 20 social for and 17 shared ownership - and 57 private rented properties.

Letters were delivered to residents around Parsonage Lane to confirm work had begun on 29 new homes on that site.

Enfield Borough Council struck a deal to build the new homes with Kier Property in October 2014.

Councillor Ahmet Oykener, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for housing and estate regeneration, said: “This approach is helping us to deal with an urgent need for quality housing for local people. The appointment of Kier Property as our chosen development partner to complete the small housing sites project ensures that we produce good council-owned property for the families that need it.”

The other site yet to be started includes:

  • 22 to 68 Forty Hill
  • 119 to 135 Lavender Hill
  • 50 to 60 St Georges Road
  • 41 to 63 Tudor Crescent
  • 1 to 18 Jasper Close
  • Garages to rear of 131 to 161 Holtwhites Hill
