A pair of bereaved mothers are set to re-launch a group to help parents after stillbirths.

Elisha O’Garro, along with fellow bereaved parent Sofia Moualdi, have re-established the Enfield Sands Group.

Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, are set up across the country and the latest group is inviting people from Enfield, Barnet, Haringey and Waltham Forest to come along to the support meetings.

Ms O’Garro, said: “Following the loss of our babies, a fellow bereaved mum and I met at a Sands Befriender Training course and we both expressed interest in setting up a support group.  We then met other bereaved parents in the area who were interested in doing the same and together we have set up Enfield Sands.

“With the closure of a maternity unit at one of our local hospitals, meaning that extra pressure is put on the remaining one, and with no previous support meetings in our area, we hope that it will fill a gap in much-needed support for local bereaved families.”

As many as 17 babies stillborn or dying shortly after birth every day in the UK, the group hopes the meetings will be of great benefit to parents.

The group will hold its first support meeting on Friday, November 7 from 5-7pm at Green Towers Community Centre, in Plevna Road, Edmonton Green.

Meetings will be held on the first Friday of every month.
