Students and staff created an interactive museum as part of Black History Month.
The museum at the Oasis Academy Enfield, in Kinetic Crescent, gave pupils an insight into the challenges, successes and cultural influences that have shaped black communities across the world.
All subject areas took part in the event, with groups of staff and students visiting the museum throughout yesterday and today.
Laura Cassidy, learning director for performing arts, said: “We have created an interactive museum based on Black History Month.
“We have explored links between discrete subjects and shared staff and student knowledge of black history in a blended and enriching way.”
Black History Month is an annual event in the United States, Canada, and the UK held to recognise and value the inspirational individuals and events that have shaped black communities.
Pupil Daniel Brown said: “The Black History Month interactive museum enabled me to learn about iconic historical figures that I would have not otherwise been able to hear about like Haile Selassie and how he founded the Rastafari movement.
“It also allowed me to hear the many tales of joy and happiness other than just the horrid stories of slavery and learn of the fascinating accounts of when black people first arrived in the UK.
“It was also fun to dress up as characters and try on the many different colourful clothes from all across Africa.”
