A campaign to celebrate 50 years since the formation of Enfield borough will be discussed this week.

Enfield Council’s cabinet will decision whether to endorse a campaign to raise awareness and celebrate the history of the borough and famous people from the area.

The borough was created on April 1, 1965, merging municipal boroughs of Edmonton, Enfield and Southgate.

Enfield Council’s cabinet member for culture, sport, youth and public health, Councillor Rohini Simbodyal, said: “We are tremendously proud of our borough and, if adopted, this campaign would celebrate everything that is great about Enfield and showcase it as a brilliant place in which to live, visit and do business.

“Enfield Council is working really hard to improve the quality of life in this borough for residents, we’ve got ambitious regeneration plans to bring thousands of homes and jobs to Enfield, we’re rolling out training programmes to cut unemployment and get people into work, our schools are constantly improving and we have fantastic parks, leisure facilities and theatres.”

Famous sons and daughters of Enfield include Sir David Jason and Sir Bruce Forsyth, comedian Russell Kane, hypnotist Paul McKenna, actor Michell Ryan and singer Amy Winehouse.
