A centenarian has admitted she never thought she would make it to 100.

Phyllis Clarke was given a birthday treat and was made to feel like a star as she celebrated her 100th birthday.

Collected from her home at Pegasus Court, Enfield, in a 1950 Jaguar M5 provided by Whitewebbs Museum of Transport, she was taken to the offices of Home Care Preferred, a care agency and independent living care shop, in Winchmore Hill, where she was presented with flowers.

Home Care Preferred managing director Ken Waterhouse said: “Radio JJ were also present at Home Care Preferred and played her favourite song Daisy, Daisy as she arrived at the party.

“Afterwards we drove with members of the team for a champagne afternoon tea at West Lodge Park. Phyllis has a brilliant sense of humour and had all the people we encountered laughing”.

On the big day, Phyllis said: “I never thought I would reach 100 years old but I can highly recommend it. Everyone has been so kind and I have enjoyed my two-day celebration both at Pegasus Court and with my friends at Home Care Preferred.”

Community relations manager Raksha Patel, who was the main organiser of the event, said: “It is the first 100th birthday party I have organised. Everyone who was part of the day had so much fun and we felt honoured to be involved with this special occasion.”
