A new park friends group is hoping to win public support in its bid to bring back a stream.

The Friends of Firs Farm, an open space of Firs Lane, Enfield, is primarily used as playing fields for football teams but is set to undergo a makeover.

The group is now hosting a consultation evening with people who live in the area on Wednesday, October 1, to discuss the restoration of an open stream in the northern part of the park, which had previously run underground.

Being completed by Enfield Borough Council, the group and the local authority also hopes to install wetland features in the park during 2015.

The event will take place between 5pm and 7pm at the Firs Park entrance, opposite 235 Firs Lane.

Toni Guiver, community organiser, is encouraging more people to join the newly established group.

She said: “Many local dog walkers, keep-fit enthusiasts, along with a number of sports groups, use this space and currently it is going through a number of changes in relation to the recently publicised flood relief works.

“Friends Groups represent the community's interest in their local park or open space. You can get involved in how our park is managed and maintained, hold events, raise funds, develop small projects and work with the Council in various ways for the benefit of Firs Farm Park.”
