Staffing at London Underground stations is set to be slashed by 25 per cent in Enfield, according to new figures.

The reduction in staff numbers is part of a reshuffle by Transport for London.

Arnos Grove station will suffer the biggest cut with a 32 per cent decrease, Southgate will have a 26 per cent fall and Oakwood will lose a quarter of its staff.

There will also be a drop of 14 per cent at Enfield’s fourth station, Cockfosters.

The figures have been revealed by the Labour London Assembly member for Enfield and Haringey, Joanne McCartney.

She said: “In Enfield we will lose 32 per cent of staff from Arnos Grove for example, leaving passengers being forced to pay more money for less staff support.

“I am calling on TfL to address this issue and to await the outcome of TravelWatch’s consultation survey before finalising plans. It is deplorable that TfL is not carrying out its own station-by-station consultation, so it is even more important that they take TravelWatch’s findings into account.”

However, Phil Hufton, London Underground’s chief operating officer, has dismissed claims that their reshuffle will not benefit passengers.

He said: “It is nonsense to suggest our plans to modernise staffing at stations will not benefit passengers.

“Under our proposals there will be more staff visible and available to help our passengers and keep them safe and secure as they will be brought out from behind glass windows and back offices to work where people need them - within ticket halls, and on concourses and platforms."

Mr Hufton also added that “every station” will remain staffed at all times while services are running.
