Police are warning elderly people to beware of bogus tradespeople.

The warning comes after a man claiming to be from a water company called at an elderly woman’s home in Hedge Lane, Palmers Green.

The man, described as white between 35 and 40, was refused entry into the woman’s home and proceeded to attempt to get into her home with a tool, but was unsuccessful.

Detective Constable, Lily Lee, from Enfield’s serious and acquisitive crime unit, said: “This type of offence has happened on a number of occasions on the borough.

“I would like to remind residents, especially the elderly, to always ask for identification and check with their suppliers before letting people into their homes.

“I would urge anyone with information to contact me without delay."
