A man remains in police custody on suspicion of murder after a man died following a fight in Enfield.

Police were called to Green Street, at the junction with Westmoor Road, at 1.38am this morning following reports of a fight in the street.

Officers and paramedics arrived at the scene and found a 51-year-old man suffering from head injuries. He was pronounced dead at 2.13am.

Police believe they know the identity of the victim but have not yet formally identified him. A post mortem is due to take place at Whittington Hospital at 10am tomorrow.

A 26-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at an east London police station.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams said: “We know the area was busy with pedestrians and traffic at the time of the incident. A number of cars stopped in the vicinity of the scene and some spoke to police officers who were in attendance.

"I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or the events prior to, or after the incident, to contact police."

Police added that the murder is not being linked to any other incident.
