A man from Edmonton died after being assaulted early this morning.

The 50-year-old fell to the ground after he was struck in the face outside Stone House Bar, in Bull Plain, Hertford, just after midnight.

A 26-year-old man from Buntingford, Hertfordshire, has been arrested with the incident and remains in police custody.

Police are treating it as a suspicious death.

Detective Chief Inspector Jerome Kent of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation. He said: “The events yesterday evening were seen by a number of people who were in the bar at the time.

“We are speaking to a number of witnesses, although I would urge anyone who saw what happened and has not yet been in contact with my officers, to please contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police in 101.
