Palmers Green festival is aiming to 'unite the community'

The third annual festival will return to Broomfield Park on Sunday, September 7.

Thousands joined in the fun last year and this year the festival will have more than 100 stalls and 30 community groups in attendance.

Organisers are also introducing the ‘community friendship zone’ to help get older people more involved in the community.

Age UK, Enfield Voluntary Action, the  Enfield Over 50s Forum, the Cypriot Elderly & Disabled Group and the newly formed Palmers Green and Southgate U3A will all be taking part in the event.

The festival will also include music on the lakeside bandstand, with the former bowling green being transformed into ‘music on the green’, which will be packed with local artists.

There will also be a fun fair, climbing wall and bungee fly.

Founder of the free festival Phillip Chard, said, “The festival has continued to grow from the desire of the local community to get together once a year to have fun and celebrate our diverse community in our local park.

“The community friendship zone and music on the green are positive additions to the festival’s aim to unite our community.”

Jean Brewer, secretary of the Palmers Green Festival CIC and trustee of the Ruth Winston Centre, added: “We wanted to encourage people, in particular older people, to get involved in the community, volunteer and join local groups."
