Sign-fitter Sam Moore of Ashridge Drive, South Oxhey, completed the world’s largest triathlon in memory of his granddad at the weekend.

Sam’s granddad, Eric Philpott, was cared for at the Peace Hospice seven years ago and the family have never forgotten the great care given by the staff.

It was for that reason that he decided to compete in the Olympic-length London Triathlon on Sunday, August 3.

He explained: "My Granddad spent his last weeks in the Peace Hospice and the care and support he and the family received was amazing.

"The staff were absolutely brilliant and made everyone feel as comfortable as possible."

Sam has raised £1,300 for the charity, three times more than his initial target.

"I have had to train very hard and it was the hardest thing I have ever done, but the feeling when I crossed the line is one of the best feelings around."

Sam thanked his family and friends for their generosity, adding: "I couldn't have done it without them there on the day to cheer me on."

Sam completed his first triathlon in three hours and 12 minutes.

The annual event sees over 13,000 competitors undertaking the course which involves a 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride and a 10k run.
