A supermarket is set to close after 39 years trading in a shopping centre.

Tesco Metro, in Edmonton shopping centre, North Mall, will close this September after opening in the centre in 1975.

More than 70 people worked at the centre but a spokesman for Tesco said the company is closing the store to "focus" on its stores in Lea Valley and Ponders End.

The spokesman said: “Our top priority is to give our customers in Edmonton the best possible service, and we think the right way to do that is to focus on our Extra stores in Lea Valley and Ponders End, nearby Express stores and online grocery shopping.

“Closing the Edmonton Metro store was a difficult decision and we will of course do everything we can to find alternative roles within Tesco for colleagues affected by this decision.”
