Edmonton MP Andy Love visited a Post Office to give the go-ahead to plans for a new current account to be opened.
The post office’s new current account will be available in 239 branches by September.
Customers will be able to update their account online, over the phone, at over 11,500 branches nationwide or at any of the 40 mobile post offices which visit over 250 rural parts of the UK.
It will also be far easier to switch current account provider offering a greater choice for customers as well as a more inclusive approach to banking.
On his visit to the Edmonton post office, Mr Love said: “These new accounts will make it much easier for people to do their banking at their local post office without having to travel far. This is particularly good news for the elderly and disabled.”
Possible reasons for this new banking system include the successful launch of the current account pilot in 110 branches in the East Midlands and the East of England since May of 2013.
