A dedicated young fundraiser took a little inspiration from the World Cup for his latest charity endeavour to help save the rainforest.

Ten-year-old Jude Apcher organised a cake sale at his school in Palmers Green and managed to raise £200 for two preservation charities.

The Hazlewood School pupil has raised more than £500 for charities over the past two years including Sport Relief, Cancer Research UK and the North London Hospice.

He was inspired to raise some cash for Brazilian rainforest preservation charities WWF and the Rainforest Alliance UK after watching the build-up to this summer’s World Cup.

The schoolboy enlisted the help of other children Rebecca, Rosa, Chloe, Emma, Winston, Tom and Phoebe, all of whom are childminding clients of his mother Natalie Apcher.

The team made cakes, treats and rainforest-themed crafts and sold them to pupils and parents at the end of the school day on Wednesday.

The money will be used to ‘buy’ an acre of rainforest from each of the charities to be preserved.

Mrs Apcher, from Palmers Green, said: “It was extremely successful. Jude is always doing charity work and it was amazing to see all of them working together and showing such incredible teamwork.

“They have all worked really hard – I’m very proud of them.”
