Students will encounter sticky waves and 'gnarly' rapids when they represent Enfield in a white water rafting competition.

Pupils from Aylward Academy, of Windmill Road, Edmonton, will take on the challenge at the Lee Valley Centre as part of its annual Schools Festival.

The school will compete with others from all London boroughs as well as Essex and Hertfordshire on the same course were Team GB claimed gold and silver in the London 2012 Olympics.

Lee Valley Regional Park Authority chief executive, Shaun Dawson said: “We’re very pleased to announce that Lee Valley White Water Centre will host this annual Schools Festival, giving hundreds of students the chance to try white water rafting at this world class venue.

“We’re expecting this festival to be just as successful as the previous events, not least because the participants will have been inspired by the athletes who competed at the Games.”

The Schools Festival will take place on Wednesday, July 9.
