Edmonton teenager bags star role in BBC drama Waterloo Road
An Edmonton teenager has a starring role in the final series of a popular television drama.
Armin Karimaghaei, 18, of Church Street, will star in the BBC1 Waterloo Road after he was recommended by his college mentor.
After impressing in his initial auditions at the Identity School of Acting, Armin is currently filming the series at the BBC studios in Glasgow.
Currently studying at City and Islington College for a BTEC Extended diploma in performing arts, Armin spoke about shooting the show.
He said: “I am really enjoying the experience so far in Glasgow as I love travelling and being in new places. It is amazing to be part of such a well-known series and I cannot wait for it to be aired next year.
“If I am being honest, I did not set out to be an actor from a young age. I played Oliver Twist at school and a part in a Lord of the Flies production, and I knew I had natural ability but I had always focused on art and design.
“I took the course at City and Islington College and my passion for acting just grew and grew. I have learnt so much from my teachers, who are not just teachers but friends. They are very inspiring, calm and provide you with the whole package to pursue a career in the industry.”
Armin’s drama tutor Tim Chaundy said: “We are very proud of Armin and what he has already achieved. Since starting the course he has shown commitment and passion to go the extra mile. He has been a pleasure to teach and work with and we hope his example can inspire other students considering taking this course.”
Asked about what he wants to achieve in the future, Armin said: “I want to be a versatile actor and to gain experience playing a wide range of roles.
“When it comes to acting, I believe in naturalism and am highly influenced and inspired by the work of Constantin Stanislavski. I hope to be part of a big Iranian film soon and I am excited about the opportunities that the future holds.”
