A seven-a-side football tournament raised an estimated £15,000 for a children’s charity.
Raising money for CHICKS, bankers and inner city workers swapped suits for football kits at the Walker Ground, in Southgate last week.
The competition was organised by chartered surveyors Belleveue Mortlakes, and proceeds will help the charity give a holiday to children that live in poverty, suffer abuse, or are young carers who have lost parents.
Kathryn Hames, corporate partnerships manager at CHICKS, said: “We were delighted when we heard the news that Belleveue had chosen us to be its charity for this year’s competition.
“The money will allow us to make more dreams come true and give children who aren’t privileged a holiday.”
Enfield Southgate MP David Burrowes was expected to officially open the event, but was rushed to North Middlesex University Hospital, in Sterling Way, Edmonton, after rupturing his appendix.
He said: “I was hoping to visit North Mid A&E soon but did not anticipate under these circumstances. I want to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of North Mid for their care of me this week.
“I got first-hand experience of the huge challenges and pressures on our A&E during one of the busiest ever days, when more than 600 patients were treated."
