Firefighters are set to hold two further strikes this month in a row with the Government over pensions.

The Fire Brigades’ Union (FBU) will stage a 24-hour walkout on June 12, coinciding with the start of the World Cup, and a further seven-hour strike on June 21.

Firefighters last went on strike for three days at the beginning of May.

FBU general secretary Matt Wrack accused the fire minister Brandon Lewis of “burying his head in the sand”, adding that firefighters “will not give up fighting for their futures”.

A spokesman for the Department for Communities and Local Government accused the FBU of “disrupting constructive discussions and an open consultation”.

A spokesman added: “With further strike action the FBU has once again shown the country it is not serious about finding a resolution.”
