New trains will be brought in on a train line that runs through Enfield when a new operator takes on the franchise.

The First Capital Connect (FCC) line which passes through stations including Enfield Chase and Palmers Green will now be run by Govia.

The company secured the contract from the Department of Transport in a seven-year deal that will start in September this year.

The service, which runs to Moorgate, had been hit with a spate of delays causing Enfield North MP Nick de Bois and Enfield Southgate MP David Burrowes to begin a campaign to improve rail services on the line.

On hearing the news that FCC had lost out to Govia Thameslink, Mr de Bois told the Enfield Independent: “This represents a new opportunity for the new rail operator to deliver the better service my constituents deserve.

“I am pleased that the Government has listened carefully to the problems on these commuter lines and that by issuing a new franchise for a longer time period means we will have the investment needed to improve service reliability and train carriages. I intend to make sure Govia deliver on their contractual promises.”

The new franchise is aiming to roll out 1,400 new trains across the south east and increase train capacity by 50 per cent by the end of 2018.

FCC managing director David Statham said: “We are of course disappointed that FirstGroup has not been selected as the operator for the TSGN franchise. We will work with Govia in order to secure the smooth transition of operations. 

“Everyone at FCC is committed to continue operating First Capital Connect to the highest standards until the new franchise begins.

“We look forward to delivering continued improvements in service reliability, customer information and customer service until September 2014.

“I want to thank our employees for their hard work and continued efforts to deliver the best possible service for our passengers.”
