Gruesome text messages reveal the hatred between a teenager who was stabbed to death in Palmers Green last year and the 17-year-old accused of killing him.

Joshua Folkes, 17, of New Southgate, was killed in the early hours of December 3, 2013, in Bowes Road, Palmers Green.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, along with Kreshnik Etemi, of Hill Road, Muswell Hill and Halil Alkay, of Glynn Road, in Wood Green, have all been charged with murder.

The three men have pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court heard today that Mr Folkes, also known as Money J, was wanted for the attempted murder of a teenager on January 15, 2013.

The court also heard from Mr Folkes’ girlfriend, a 15-year-old girl who cannot be named, and revealed text messages sent between the two.

The messages showed that Mr Folkes and his friend Matthew Hurly, also known as ‘Dutch’ had been in the flat of the unnamed defendant two days before Mr Folkes’ death.

The 15-year-old girl told Mr Folkes he was “reckless” in the text messages and asked what if the defendant came back.

Mr Folkes responded by texting: “We will have party with his head.”

Kirk Surgeon, of Bowes Road, also gave evidence in court about the start of the hatred between Mr Folkes and his alleged killer.

He told the court that the feud began on October 31, 2013, when he claims the pair fell out over a piece of cigarette paper known as a Rizla.

Mr Surgeon suggests that the falling out resulted in the defendant leaving the flat and calling three men to come to Mr Surgeon’s flat to find Mr Folkes.

He said: “My door was kicked in and three men came in shouting ‘where is Money J? Where is Money J?’ and I told them I didn’t know. Money J had already gone to his mother's.”

“Two of them pinned me against the wall and stabbed me in the back with a samurai sword. I knew he [the defendant] had called them to look for Money J but he had already left.”

Mr Surgeon said the ill-feeling between Folkes and the defendant escalated from there and told the court he joined Mr Folkes in vandalising the defendant’s flat, which was adjacent to Mr Surgeon’s.

Defence barrister Michael Bromley-Martin claimed that the next time Mr Surgeon saw the defendant, a month later, he was out for “revenge”.

He said: “When you saw him, you went back to your flat where Money J and Dutch were, you told them he was outside and you all grabbed a knife and chased him down the street, didn’t you?”

Mr Surgeon responded by saying: “That never happened.”

The unnamed 17-year-old is expected to give evidence this week when the defence makes its case.
