A sports club in Winchmore Hill has invested £500,000 to improve and expand its tennis facilities.
The cash boost will help Hazelwood Tennis Club pay for a new three-court acrylic indoor 'airhall' facility, providing six heated and lit indoor courts available during the winter.
The airhall will be taken down in the summer to provide floodlit outdoor courts and will be erected for the winter in October.
Additionally, four outdoor tennis courts will be updated with new floodlights and an artificial clay surface. The new surface drains quickly and is known for being soft and forgiving on players’ joints.
Ray Waller, the chairman of the club, which is based at Hazelwood Sports Club in Ridge Avenue, said it is planning a series of open days for the community to try the new facilities.
Mr Waller said: “This is a really exciting time for the club. We have a great community at Hazelwood. The project funding has been entirely raised by loans from our own members.
“We hope that the new facilities will encourage more people to visit the club, whether they are keen players already, or looking to learn. We are happy to welcome anyone of any age and any ability.”
