After tucking away a spot kick at Spurs star Ledley King’s testimonial, Southgate MP David Burrowes laced up his boots again for a charity match in Fulham.

Mr Burrowes, an Arsenal fan, calmly dispatched a penalty at White Hart Lane last week and played once more for Cystic Fibrosis Trust (CFT) at Fulham’s ground, Craven Cottage.

Playing for the Parliamentary XI against the CFT, made up of celebrities Angus Deayton, British high jumper Dalton Grant, Olympic rowing champion Mark Hunter and DJ Spoony in a 6-5 win for the CFT.

The annual match marked the 50th year since the trust was formed and raised £25,000 for the charity.

Mr Burrowes came up against two constituents, Paul Potsos and his brother-in-law James Cornish who had personal reasons for support the trust after Paul’s wife, Claire, died from the condition.

The MP said: "It was a great pleasure to be able to take part in this charity match which has helped to raise £25,000 for vital research to help beat cystic fibrosis.

“I was especially pleased to be able to play against my constituent, Paul Potsos, and his brother-in-law James Cornish, who have a personal reason for supporting the CF UK after Paul's wife, Claire, died of cystic fibrosis last year.

“I hope that this match will continue to highlight the great need to seek a cure for cystic fibrosis and I encourage my constituents to help get involved in the campaign by visiting cysticfibrosis.org.uk."

Mr Potsos said "It was great to take part in a hotly contested match for a cause very close to my heart. Along with James we will be back next year raising funds and awareness for CF UK."
