Disruptions are expected when work to upgrade an Edmonton road tunnel begins next week.

The Fore Street Tunnel will be shut between 10pm and 5.30am from Monday to Friday, starting on Monday.

The tunnel, built in 1998, forms part of the North Circular. Work will improve lighting and make the tunnel safer to reduce further maintenance.

The tunnel will also close for four full weekends this winder and Transport for London expects to complete the work by the end of 2015.

Garrett Emmerson, chief operating officer for srface transport at TfL, said: “TfL manages more road tunnels than any other highway authority in the UK and it is vitally important that we keep them in a safe state and upgrade them to ensure they are fit for the future.

“We are committed to keeping disruption caused by these works to a minimum, and apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused as a result of the improvements we’re making.”
