The owner of a supermarket has raised more than £1,200 for his nearby scouting group.
Rohit Shah, known to everyone as Roy, is manager of Costcutter of Westerham Avenue in Edmonton, and managed to raise money for the 24th Edmonton Scout troop.
The group meet adjacent to Mr Shah’s shop and he decided to raise the money when he took part in ‘Making A Difference Locally’ campaign, which helps shops improve its community.
Mr Shah said: “I see the Scouts going to and from their meetings and coming into the store. Scouting is great for the youngsters; it is so good for them and for the community.
“It’s wonderful to be able to make a difference in the community – the Scouts help others and I’m pleased to be able to help them. It’s what being in a community is all about.”
The leader of the 24th Edmonton Scouts, Roger Gleave, was delighted with the latest donation and feels the money will go far in improving facilities.
He said: “We are very grateful for this money, it will be used to upgrade the toilet facilities at our Rammey Island water activities centre to include disabled access enabling Scouting for All”.
Twelve-year-old Scout Kaireece said: “Getting this extra money is great as my favourite part of Scouting is the water activities and now we will be able to do more."
