Two thirds of Enfield Independent readers who took part in an online poll believe introducing licences for landlords will improve behaviour among tenants.

Enfield Council last week approved plans to impose the licences on landlords in a bid to curb anti-social behaviour among tenants.

An online poll run by the Enfield Independent this week found that 67 per cent of readers believed the measures are a good idea.

Landlords will be charged £500 over five years to obtain accredited checks from the local authority when the scheme comes into force in April 2015.

A discount of 50 per cent will be offered to landlords who sign up before that date.

Critics claim the licences are a profit-making scheme for the local authority, and 33 per cent of readers who voted in the online poll agreed that the measure would not affect tenants’ behaviour.
