More than 70 firefighters are continuing to fight a huge blaze at a restaurant in Ponders End this morning.

Fire crews have been attempting to put out the fire at Vadi Restaurant, in High Street, Ponders End, which has been raging since approximately 1.30am.

The fire is affecting the restaurant and a neighbouring business as well as four flats above the premises.

Twelve people escaped from the building before crews arrived. It is not believed that anyone else is in danger at this stage.

Police are not treating the blaze as suspicious.

Ten fire engines from Enfield, Edmonton, Chingford, Woodford, Tottenham, Walthamstow, Soho and Bethnal Green fire stations are at the scene.

The cause of the fire will be investigated once the incident is over.

The fire has had major implications on traffic this morning with the A1010, Hertford Road closed between Ponders End High Street and Nags Head Road junction.

The 121, 191, 279, 307, 313, 349, 377, 491 and N279 bus routes have all been diverted away from the scene.

Part of Southbury Road, A110 between Swansea Road and Ponders End High Street has also been majorly affected.

Police are asking residents who live nearby to keep their windows closed.
