POLL: Will licensing landlords see a fall in antisocial behaviour?

Enfield Independent: Graham Roberts, landlord, is against the scheme Graham Roberts, landlord, is against the scheme

A controversial scheme to license landlords has been passed in Enfield despite anger from private landlords at a scrutiny meeting this week.

Enfield Borough Council has passed the scheme and has cited the high levels of antisocial behaviour as one of the main reasons for bringing the license in.

The license itself will cost landlords £500 over five years or £250 if they sign up before April 2015, when the license comes into effect.

Landlords claim that antisocial behaviour has nothing to do with landlords and that this scheme is only a profit making one for the council.

Now you can have your say in our latest online poll.

You cannot possibly expect people to vote on this given the woefully small amount of information! I'd like to see the correlation between charging landlords and the expected reduction in anti-social behaviour. What are the thought processes? Would it not make more sense to charge a landlord if their tenant is proven to have negaged in anti-social behaviour?

I'm not quite sure how assuming all landlords are bad, then taxing them is at all fair (they will past the cost on obviously). Are all councillors useless, this would be the same mentality! A good example of stigmatisation and profiteering on the part of Enfield Council!

Maybe someone will submit a FOI request for Enfield Council owned device access to this vote.
