North London schoolchildren have been showcasing their business ideas as part of a Young Enterprise initiative to encourage entrepreneurship.

Teams from schools from Haringey, Barnet and Enfield presented their innovative ideas at the North London Company Programme Final in front of 130 people in Finchley on Monday.

The competing teams created new businesses from scratch, including drawing up plans, creating products and services, raising share capital, and selling their inventions at trade fairs in Brent Cross and Old Spitalfields Market.

The products created included ‘Kiss My Canv-ass’ bags, sweet shop style bath soaps, customized chalk mugs, and arty Oyster Card covers.

QE Girls School in Barnet eventually triumphed and were awarded the Best Company Award for their business, ‘Purity’, which sold bath soaps.

The team will now go on to the London Final on June 11 at Citibank, Canary Wharf, with the prospect of going on to compete in UK Final on July 1 at the BFI.

The European Final to be held in Estonia in July.
