The first national mass shredding day will be taking place in Enfield this week.

Enfield Town’s market square will play host the first shredding day and has been organized by Enfield-based company Crown Records Management.

The event will take place on Wednesday, April 30, between 8am and 2pm and is free of charge for anyone wishing to shred old paperwork.

Ann Sellar, head of secure destruction services at Crown Records Management, said: "Around 6 million people in the UK have been victims of identity theft.

"According to a YouGov poll Experts estimate that if you become a victim of identity theft and fraud you will spend anywhere from six months to two years recovering from it. Our free shredding day aims to eliminate this threat in a matter of minutes."
