Children looked back to when the lights went out across Europe this week as they created comic books to mark the centenary of the First World War.

Artist Karen Rubins helped children aged between eight and 12 learn more about life in Enfield during the Great War at the Dugdale Centre in London Road, Enfield.

Run by Enfield Council’s library and museum service, the strips were based on propaganda from the First World War.

The Dugdale centre is holding an ‘Enfield at War’ exhibition as the borough commemorates 100 years since the outbreak of the conflict.

Councillor Bambos Charalambous, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure, youth and localism, said: “This exciting workshop is a great thing to do with the children, creating comic book strips, and learning history at the same time.
